South Australia to discuss participatory budgeting

By GovInsider

Gail Fairlamb, Director of Strategic Engagement, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, to share about participatory budgeting.

South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet will share insights on participatory budgeting at Innovation Labs World in Singapore.

Gail Fairlamb, the agency’s director of strategic engagement, will discuss how South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet engages citizens in policy-making by allowing them to decide how much to spend on public budgets.

“People in our communities are best placed to judge whether a policy, programme or service will improve their lives,” says Fairlamb, in her interview with GovInsider. The inaugural Fund My Neighbourhood grant programme, which was launched in 2017, “enables citizens to decide how to spend $40 million on neighbourhood improvement projects”, she adds.

Fairlamb will be speaking at the Future of Tax focus group, where she will be joined by Clarito Alejandro DL. Magsino, assistant secretary of the ICT Management Group, Philippines’ Department of Budget and Management.
