Diplomacy plays a crucial role in preventing similar attacks, FireEye CEO tells leaders in the US.

An investigation into the US election hacks and other state-backed attacks has shown that diplomacy plays a crucial role in cyber security.

This is demonstrated by a sharp reduction in Chinese hacks on American infrastructure after a specific agreement reached by the Presidents of both nations.

“We conducted a comprehensive study of 182 compromised U.S. targets by 72 Chinese cyber threat groups going back to 2013, and we saw a sharp decline in these operations after September 2015 – when President Obama and President Xi met and specifically agreed to curtail cyber operations for commercial benefit,” the CEO of FireEye, Kevin Mandia, told the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
