Moves after 30 years in public service.

Singapore’s transport chief executive has announced his departure from government service, after 22 months in the role.

"I will be making a change of career over to the private sector in the coming months after 30 years of fulfilling public service”, stated Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

During his tenure, LTA dealt with multiple MRT breakdowns, tendered out bus routes, and encouraged cycling as an alternative to driving. Just last month, the transport authority launched a tender for its bicycle-sharing pilot.

Prior to taking up the role in October 2014, Chew led Singapore’s water agency, PUB for three years and served 25 years in the Singapore Armed Forces, including four years as navy chief in the Ministry of Defence.

LTA will announce a successor at a later date, it stated. Chew will remain in office till November 11. Image by Pradeep Swaminathan, licensed under CC BY-ND 2.0
