South Korea builds 3D map to test drones

Map will launch by 2016.

South Korea is building a 3D map to test drone flights, the government has announced. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will include spatial information such as topography, humidity, temperature and power lines and cables in the 3D map, ZDnet reports. The map will be completed by the end of the year, and first be used in Jeonju city and Yeongwol province. Currently, the government has set limits for drone use among citizens, in the cities of Busan, Daegu, Jeonju, Yeongwol, and Goheung, ZDnet writes. The 3D map will first have to be tested before it can be used by citizens, the ministry added. Image by Richard Unten, licensed under CC BY 2.0
