There are some challenges that no single ministry can solve on its own. These seemingly impossible tasks, called wicked problems, require a collaborative approach across government. A recent report, by Fuji Xerox and GovInsider, shows three ways governments can approach wicked problems. They must break down traditional silos between ministries and work together. Policies should be designed to address citizens’ needs. And security should always be paramount. Take ageing population. Health is of course a key area of concern. But it also requires input from transport and housing authorities to ensure the elderly can live comfortably. At the same time, younger citizens must be empowered to take care of the elderly.
