Certificates given to citizens for using the Election Commission’s app.

Thailand has built an app with the draft constitution ahead of an August 7 referendum on the charter. The Smart Info app, launched this week by the Election Commission, has the full text of the draft, along with infographics and summaries of its content for lighter reading.

The app gives a certificate to those who read of all of the constitution summaries, Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said - a move intended to get citizens to take an interest in the app’s contents.

It does not test, however, whether the user has read the content or simply scrolled through it. The app also gives information on the referendum itself, with steps on how to cast a vote and polling rules.

Citizens will also be able to register which district they would like to cast their vote in, Srisutthiyakorn added. The Election Commission earlier launched a separate app for voters to locate their polling booth, aptly named “North Star”.
