Artificial Intelligence (AI) has to potential to make mental healthcare more accessible for Southeast Asia.
Writing in this month’s NAIO Pulse, IJN University College, Director for the Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Department of Psychology, Hariyati Shahrima Abdul Majid, noted that that AI could help to extend the reach and effectiveness of mental health professionals, in a regional context where stigma and limited access to formal services prevent people from seeking and obtaining help.
In Malaysia, the integration of AI in the healthcare sector has been enabled by the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s foundation work to implement a cloud-based content management system across 156 public health clinics.
NAIO Pulse is a bi-monthly newsletter published by Malaysia’s National AI Office (NAIO), focusing on AI developments in the country.
The use cases highlighted in this month’s newsletter ranged from enhancing disease detection to real-time health tracking.
NAIO calls for public feedback on AI plan
As Malaysia prepares to become an AI Nation by 2030, NAIO shared the draft of Malaysia’s AI Action Plan 2030, which outlines the plan of leveraging technology to drive innovation and benefit citizens.
NAIO calls for public to submit their feedback on the draft plan here until 30 November 2025.
