Taken together with the mid-year payments, civil servants will receive a total of 1.5 months in full-year annual variable component (AVC), with those in the more junior grades receiving total lump-sum payments of up to S$850 in 2024.
In a statement on Monday, the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) said that the organisation, together with the public sector unions, negotiated for and appreciated that the Government accepted the unions’ proposal to pay year-end AVC of 1.05 month and S$600 for MX15 and MX16, and those in the Operations Support Scheme (OSS).
The year-end AVC payment with the one-time lump sum of S$600 will provide extra support for the lower-income officers in public service, AUPE said.
AUPE General Secretary Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari shared that “given Singapore's strong economic performance and the commendable efforts of public officers in 2024, it is important for the government to acknowledge our public officers’ contributions and provide encouragement through such payments when the economy does well.”
Projected GDP growth taken into consideration
This year-end payment takes into consideration that Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by around 3.5 per cent in 2024 as well as the National Wages Council (NWC) guidelines for 2024/2025, AUPE said.
On Friday, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) had forecast that Singapore’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth would come to around 3.5 per cent in 2024.
Tiwari added, “AUPE thanks public officers for their dedicated service and continues to encourage all our public officers to do their best and remain relevant through the necessary upgrading programmes and we look forward to more good years ahead.”
