Departments that once worked separately must now work together to understand challenges from a citizen’s perspectives.

Systems that were once disconnected are now increasingly sharing data. Air quality sampling stations, traffic signals and street lighting can be connected to adjust lighting and traffic flow on smoggy days.

Take this a step further, and governments can use all of this connected information to make predictive decisions with machine learning. For instance, how can trends in air quality help predict and possibly prevent accidents from poor visibility?

Fundamentally, this requires governments to share data and information across silos, and one established way of doing this is through cloud technology.
