Singapore converts port into a ‘living lab’

Singapore has opened up a part of its port for companies to test their ideas. The “living lab” in the port will allow startups and tech companies to develop new ideas and test-bed solutions to improve productivity, port authority PSA announced today.

It will spend S$100 million on the project in the next three years. The lab will occupy two operational berths at the Pasir Panjang Terminal.

PSA is working with the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and Economic Development Board on the project.

“We believe that the success of Maritime Singapore hinges upon our ability to leverage on good people together with cutting-edge technology to enhance our competitiveness,” said Andrew Tan, CEO of MPA.

The Living Lab complements PSA’s recently launched incubator program to nurture startups working on port technology.

“It is imperative for PSA to become even more efficient, innovative and productive to be future-ready and contribute to the country’s status as a global hub port,” said Ong Kim Pong, Regional CEO of PSA.
