How do you use technology/policy to improve citizens’ lives? Tell us about your role or organisation.

I work in Jakarta Smart City as a business analyst. We use information and communication technology to help solve problems in Jakarta – mainly with data and processing citizens’ complaints. The city has digital applications such as smart city.go.id portal, citizen relation management applications, control room applications and many more. I am a business analyst in the smart city – managing the data and analysing the data.

What has been the most exciting thing that you worked on in 2018?

It’s very important for the Jakarta government and citizens to connect quickly and accurately through the use of complaints channel. Citizens can report any problems in Jakarta such as waste, traffic, public facility and other problems. Citizen relations management is the application to help the Jakarta government officers in addressing these complaints, and simplifying coordination between departments and the officers. It’s exciting to look through the data they provide and get the insights from it.

If you were to share one piece of advice that you learned in 2018, what would it be?

Technology gives opportunities for everyone, I think. It helps us know and understand the condition and the situation now and guides our decisions in the future.

What tool or technique particularly interests you for 2019?

Big data helps us to identify opportunities and it can be used as a basis for strategic planning and decision-making process for the short term and expected future goals.

Such analysis can be a basis for government policies and strategic steps and Jakarta has made some implementations of this approach for traffic and air pollution.

What are your priorities for 2019?

My priority is see that the government and citizens will collaborate through our programmes and that the government continues to provide applications that citizens can use.

What is one skill that has helped you the most throughout the course of your career?

Mathematics and computation. Mathematics has a logical structure and analytical side while computation is the implementation of that.

What advancements do you predict will happen in your field in the next ten years?

I think there will be a big explosion of data, especially since Indonesia is using CCTV for monitoring, and artificial intelligence will be developed to solve that problem.

Coffee, yoga, music… what powers you through your day?

Any form of love around me and positive energy for me to be able to continue to advance.
