Professor Hawking was diagnosed with a motor neuron disease at the age of 21, which has slowly taken over his speech. Since 1997, he has been working with Intel to improve the software that helps him speak. “Medicine has not been able to cure me, so I rely on technology to communicate and live,” Professor Hawking said.
