The Thai government will track truck drivers’ behaviour to ensure they don’t drive rashly.

The Department of Land Transport is requiring all heavy duty trucks to install a GPS location tracking system by 2019.

The GPS system will allow officials to track drivers’ behaviour by pooling real time vehicle coordinates, travel speed and driving duration to a traffic management centre.

Most truck accidents occur because drivers work overtime and exceed speed limits, said Sanit Phromwong, Director General of the Land Transport Department in January.
