Electronic system to track payments better.

Jakarta launched an electronic platform for tax payments on Wednesday, to reduce the chances of bribes.

With the electronic system in place, the local government wants to eliminate the use of cash and track payments better, making processes more transparent.

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama also hopes that the e-tax system will “encourage more people to meet their obligations.

Previously, it could take people a long time to pay their taxes, which prompted them to ask for a middleman’s help.

But not now”, the governor said. “If we can make a simple tax payment system and arrange tax amounts that are not burdensome to the payers, our economic condition will improve,” he said. Image by Christoph Bauer, licensed under CC BY 2.0
