When you think of Brazil, you might think of the great Amazon River meandering through the rainforest. But the country also has 200,000km of roads being upgraded with the latest cutting-edge tech.
A smart roads scheme will install sensors that track all 90 million cars, trucks and motorbikes in the country by 2019. The system will allow the government to reduce congestion and accidents, sending alerts to drivers when their usual route is blocked.
The roads will also gather data on whether road tax has been paid, and automatically alert police when they detect a car involved in crime.
