Singapore utility signs $7.4 million smart grid, analytics projects

Five partnerships signed by Singapore’s electricity supplier.
Singapore’s electricity utility has signed deals worth S$10 million (US$7.46 million) on smart grids and data analytics projects. The Singapore Power Centre of Excellence signed partnerships with five private sector companies last week.
It is partnering on grid sensing with 3M, and analytics with NEC and Space-Time Insight. These projects will provide predictive alerts on electricity disruptions, allowing SP to repair infrastructure before they fail.
It is working with GE’s Grid Solutions business on substation digitalisation. This will provide customers with the choice of using renewable energy.
It is also building smart energy and analytics platforms with IJENKO and OMNETRIC Group. These will use analytics to get insights on customers’ behaviour, allowing SP to tailor messages to engage customers.
These are the first partnerships signed by the utility’s centre of excellence, and will be completed by 2021. The centre was launched in April 2015 to pilot cutting-edge technologies in Singapore’s energy infrastructure.
The centre is “committed to driving research and innovation that translates into a future-ready national grid”, said Brandon Chia, head of the SP Centre of Excellence.
The centre overall has a budget of S$30 million (US$22.38 million) and is supported by the Economic Development Board. Image licensed under Creative Commons
