Monitoring progress and managing emergency workers in Nepal.

In the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake, the United Nations Development Programme is using analytics to monitor disaster recovery efforts in real-time.

The UNDP built an app, developed in partnership with Microsoft, has helped the UN coordinate logistics, people and payments in Nepal. Emergency workers can records data on damaged infrastructure such as its location and measurements.

It also calculates the volume of debris and time taken to clear. The app is also used to track the work done by the local community in clearing out the debris and manages cash payments to them.

All of this data is crunched to give the team analytics on building a recovery plan to clear the area post-disaster. If you like to hear more from Microsoft, read the full story of how the United Nations is working with the company.
