AUPE and GovInsider sign MoU to take public sector learning to new heights

The Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) and GovInsider have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to forge a strategic partnership to support Singapore public sector employees in their journey to acquire the skills needed to meet the demands of the rapidly changing nature of public services that technology is bringing about.  

The MoU was signed on Saturday at the Marina Bay Sands, Orchid Ballroom, by AUPE General Secretary, Sanjeev Tiwari and GovInsider Director (Transformation & Strategic Projects), Tyler Lim and witnessed by NTUC Secretary-General, Ng Chee Meng, AUPE President, Jefry Mohamad and GovInsider Director, Adrian Sng.

The AUPE, formed on September 26, 1959, is the largest public sector union in Singapore, representing over 23,000 public employees across Ministries, Statutory Boards and organs of state.  

AUPE is committed to safeguarding the well-being of its members and is affiliated with the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Public Service International (PSI). 

GovInsider, a portfolio under Clarion Events, was set up in 2015 to cover the public sector landscape not only in Singapore but across the region and world.

GovInsider publishes inspiring stories about public sector innovation and organises events such as the Festival of Innovation and Public Sector Days across ASEAN, which provide platforms for public sector employees, technology providers and academics from Singapore and abroad to share ideas, challenges, and achievements in the public sector space regionally.  

Transformation stories 

Under the terms of the MOU, AUPE members will be able to learn about the transformation stories of their fellow union members through a specially crafted “AUPE Transformation Champions” series to be run by GovInsider. This will make the experience more personable and relatable.  
 
AUPE members will also receive exclusive invitations to GovInsider’s conferences and roundtables enabling them to take part in events that go deeper into topics of interest. These events will offer opportunities for AUPE members to get hands-on learning experience, share their views on transformation within the public sector and network with fellow public sector employees from not only Singapore but also from overseas.  

AUPE’s Tiwari said: “The work of AUPE and GovInsider involves public sector officers and has potential synergy and optimisation of resources across both parties.”  

“Following GovInsider's Festival of Innovation 2024 event in March, where AUPE shared its point of view, both parties agreed to explore collaboration opportunities, leading to this MOU. It is expected that the rich variety of stories focused on public sector innovation will inspire and guide AUPE members in their own personal development and growth journey as public sector employees,” GovInsider’s Lim said. He added that through the content-sharing agreement, AUPE members will have access to GovInsider’s editorial content.

Under the agreement, AUPE will share selected GovInsider’s articles in its newsletters, website, and social media with attribution. AUPE will also invite their members to join and share GovInsider's events that are relevant to the public sector.  

GovInsider on its part will support AUPE with media coverage on announcements, features, and releases, subject to their relevance in terms of content for GI’s audience.  

The two organisations will also explore the possibility of co-location of each other’s events to reach a wider audience. 

This partnership will give AUPE a voice as a thought leader in the public innovation space locally and globally, inspire and connect our members, offering them opportunities to grow and embark on the journey of growth and transformation.  

Both Tiwari and Lim expressed hope that the MOU would be the first step in building up the relationship between the two organisations for the benefit of Singapore’s public sector employees.
