Driverless cars to get Singapore radio frequency
Proposal sees city creating necessary infrastructure.
Singapore is setting aside an airwave frequency to allow driverless cars to communicate with sensors installed on lamp posts and traffic lights that help them navigate the city.
The 5.9GHz frequency field follows the lead of the United States. “The technologies rely on wireless communications… to enable the transmission of information between vehicles and road infrastructure, and among vehicles,” the IDA said in a consultation document.
Trials are already underway in Singapore for driverless cars, and the government has just committed $0.6bn of investment in future transport systems.
