Dubai launches Regulatory Hacking Program

A workshop that aims to encourage disruption in the Dubai government has been launched, the Emirates News Agency reported.

Dubai 10X, an initiative by Dubai Future Foundation, and global business incubator 1776 have launched the Regulatory Hacking Program with support from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. Participants from over 36 Dubai government entities attended the program, the report said.

The purpose of the workshop is for the Dubai government to reduce regulatory barriers that hinder innovation, which involves working with the startup ecosystem.

The workshop will do this by educating participants about policy-making procedures in Dubai, and helping them gain a better understanding of how government entities create policies, according to the report.

“The Regulatory Hacking Program offers support for the Dubai 10X initiative teams as they create innovative methods for government entities that make them more flexible in adapting to future changes,” Abdullah bin Touq, Acting CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, was quoted as saying.

The report quoted Evan Burfield, CEO of 1776, as saying that the workshop will help to make regulatory hacking “the new tool of trade in the digital era”. Once the program is over, Dubai will make an announcement of the regulatory changes that the government will carry out as a result, the report said.
