How growing cities can meet citizens’ demands
By GovInsider
One city is looking across every department to overhaul services.
Surat is a rapidly growing city in India and has to meet increasing citizen demands. Its Digital City strategy is looking across all departments to see how it can serve citizens better.
The city has built a virtual service center where citizens can access a range of services, and is using a dashboard to track agencies’ performance. It has automated management of water treatment plants to minimize waste and tracks garbage collection in real-time. Surat involves citizens in the journey too.
The city held a hackathon, and the winning app will help the government better monitor citizens’ health and control the spread of diseases.
