Malaysia launches psychometric testing for 6 agencies

Six ministries are currently using psychometric testing to gauge staff ability more effectively.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister of Malaysia has launched psychometric testing for 6 government agencies.
“When enforcement agencies catch their highly trusted personnel involved in unlawful behaviour, or when SPM candidates score straight A’s in 12 subjects yet cannot decide on their future career, this is where digital assessment tools can offer a solution,” Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau told The Star newspaper.
“Twenty-first century problems call for 21st century solutions,” the Minister added. At the launch, national ICT R&D centre Mimos Bhd and job-hunting platform, myStarjob signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of psychometrics, the report said.
The R&D centre, which has been conducting psychometrics R&D since 2009, has seen its psychometric technology being adopted by six ministries, among other organisations. Previous psychometric techniques could measure skills but not accurately,
The Star quoted Mimos Bhd president and CEO Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah as saying, and he notes that their psychometric software “provides a more specific and targeted assessment”.
