Malaysian creates dengue prediction app

A Malaysian doctor has built an award-winning app that predicts dengue outbreaks.

Dr Dhesi Baha Raja developed an artificial intelligence platform that uses 23 variables to give prior warnings of likely dengue outbreaks.

The platform has an accuracy of 84% to 88%, he said and can give warnings of possible outbreaks two to three months in advance.

It is currently being trialed in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, Brazil. Dhesi, and the team of five who helped him develop the app, just won an award from the Pistoia Alliance of King’s College London.

He intends to bring it to Malaysia in the next three to six months, according to The Star newspaper.
