Malaysian Immigration fires 15 of its officers, suspends others

Malaysia has fired 15 of its immigration officers, filing it under ‘sabotage’ claims. T

he Malaysian Immigration Department has acted against 37 of its officers, firing 15, suspending 14 from duty and freezing the salary of eight officers, said Sakib Kusmi, the Immigration Director-General.

Officers included were those working at important entry points into the country, IT staff and officers cooperating with the system vendor.

"We also transferred 63 officers out of our headquarters in Putrajaya and have prepared a new name list for personnel that are supposed to be stationed at airports," Kusmi said.

This came after ongoing investigations into frequent breakdowns of the security screening system in Kuala Lumpur’s international airport.
