Myanmar Government to speak at Innovation Labs World
By GovInsider
The Department of Social Welfare will share its approach for elderly care.
Myanmar’s Department of Social Welfare will speak at Innovation Labs World in Singapore this year. Dr San San Aye, Deputy Director General of Social Welfare, will share Myanmar’s approach to supporting an ageing population.
She will be speaking at the Ageing Demographics stream at the event on 26 September in Singapore. Dr San San Aye is championing the expansion social security services for the elderly in Myanmar, which she says is ageing at an “alarming” rate.
The country developed its first national social protection strategy in 2014 and expanded funding for the programme this year. With limited healthcare funding available, Myanmar has partnered with NGOs to expand support for the elderly in rural communities.
Dr San San Aye is working now to gather evidence on how this approach could work and be refined in the future. She will be speaking alongside Dr Sato Kenichi, who will share Japan’s lessons in caring for its elderly population.
Innovation Labs World is GovInsider’s global government summit, bringing together innovators to improve public service delivery. The event is free for all public sector officials.
