Narendra Modi sent me a birthday card!

Imagine my surprise this morning when I opened my emails and saw a Happy Birthday message from the Prime Minister of India.

I was surprised, partly, because it isn’t my birthday. I must have popped in a random date when testing out their MyGov e-service a few years back.

But it was impressive. A birthday message, which also lets me share it on social media to show off to my friends. This is an interesting and, I think, unique form of citizen engagement.

The Prime Minister of India is notable for his incredible social media reach, and this is another way that he is winning over citizens who register to use government digital services. Perhaps it’s soon coming to a country near you!
