New chairman for Singapore’s IDA

DBS, Google executives join as new board members.

Singapore has appointed a new Chairman for the Infocomm Development Authority’s board, Chan Yeng Kit. Chan, who is also Permanent Secretary for Defence, will take office from 1 December.


He takes over from Yong Ying-I, who steps down as IDA’s Chairman after eight years, the Ministry of Communications and Information announced. The Ministry has also appointed three new members to IDA’s board for a two-year term from 1 December.


The Chief Executive of DBS Bank, Piyush Gupta has been appointed alongside Caesar Sengupta, Vice President of Google, and Peter Ho Yew Chi, CEO of Hope Technik. Chan has previously served as CEO of the IDA from January 2000 to November 2007. During this time, he led the development of the Intelligent Nation 2015 masterplan, predecessor to the Smart Nation vision.


He was also Permanent Secretary of Information, Communication and the Arts from 2008 to 2012. 11 other board members have been reappointed for a further two-year term. The three new appointments take over from three retiring board members: Jimmy Phoom, CEO, SeaTown Holdings; Eddie Chau, Co-Founder and Chairman, V-Key; and Alexander Kleinburg, Managing Director, MoPub, Asia-Pacific and Japan, Twitter.
