Bank of Cambodia confirms for GovInsider Live

Director General Serey Chea will share her vision for financial inclusion at Asia’s GovTech summit.
Chea will share her vision for financial inclusion and how she is easing the adoption of digital payment services in the country. In 2016, only 59% of the population had access to formal banking services. Cambodia’s central bank has a mandate to improve financial inclusion with the use of technology.
This year, the central bank will launch the Cambodia Share Switch, which requires financial institutions in Cambodia that issue chip cards as payment instruments to be interoperable with each other.
Similarly, digital payments will help to tamp down corruption in the country. “That’s in a way how the national bank is contributing to the government’s effort in tackling corruption – through increased transparency and efficiency in payment transactions,” Chea told GovInsider.
