Alan Chan Heng Loon starts new role on 1 April.
Singapore Press Holding’s Chief Executive Officer, Alan Chan Heng Loon, has been appointed Chairman of the Land Transport Authority.
Chan’s appointment will take effect from 1 April.
He was previously Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He takes over from Michael Lim Choo San, who stepped down on 31 March after 14 years in the role.
LTA launched its Land Transport Masterplan in 2008 under Lim’s leadership. He has been a “champion of LTA's transformation into a commuter-centric organization”, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.
He has overseen the expansion of Singapore’s rail network by 200 kilometers, including the Circle Line and Downtown Line. He also played a key role in changing Singapore’s public bus industry to a new contracting model to provide more competitive and responsive services, the Ministry said.
Lim is also a member of the Public Service Commission and Chairman of the Singapore Accountancy Commission.
