Singapore state courts automate bail payments

Singapore’s State Courts have launched digital kiosks to automate payments by citizens. People will be able to pay bail, court fees and fines at the kiosks, which are integrated in real-time with the courts’ internal financial management system.

The State Courts collect S$56 million in court fees and fines, and S$14 million in bail every year. Previously, cashiers were deployed at five counters in the court complex to collect these payments.

Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon had said last year that the kiosks would make it "more efficient than the current system of deploying officers at multiple counters".

Users can check their payment dues by scanning the QR code on their payment advice or enter the reference number. They can pay through cash, NETS, credit card, debit card or cheque.

Payments can be made immediately after their case concludes. There are around 100 payments a day, with collections of about S$80,000 to $100,000 in just cash.
