To encourage citizens to create innovative living solutions.

Singapore’s housing board will launch a three-day hackathon, as part of an initiative for the public to work together, enhancing the quality of life in HDBs.

It aims to bring people together to create innovative solutions, encourage community bonding, information sharing and eco-friendly living.

Submissions can be in mobile form, web-based applications, or any other ideas that incorporate technology. Winners will have the opportunity to trial their ideas in existing HDB estates, and stand a chance of winning prizes up to a total S$20,000.

“There are opportunities for everyone to play a part in shaping the HDB living environment and to make it better, according to how they see it”, said Cheong Koon Hean, HDB’s Chief Executive Officer.

The hackathon is open to all members of the public, and will be held from June 24 to 26. HDB will organise a pre-hackathon workshop from 18 June to train participants for the competition. Image by Fechi Fajardo, licensed under CC BY 2.0
