Sri Lanka can soon track procurement digitally

Sri Lanka will soon be able to track procurement digitally, with a new system pushed out by the World Bank for countries in South Asia.

The system will include an online tracking and monitoring tool to speed up procurement processes, boost transparency and facilitate related complaints.

It will help countries purchasing goods and services under the World Bank’s financed projects, to “focus on outcomes, rather than rules and procedures”, said Robert Hunja, World Bank Director.

It also serves to help the World Bank work closely with partner countries to improve their procurement systems, and allow countries to share the procurement arrangements of international partners.

The policy framework was first approved in July after three years of extensive review and consultation with 100 countries. It covers financed projects in 172 countries, valued at US$56 billion.
