Thailand tracking truck locations to cut accidents

Officials will be able to monitor driver behaviour.

The Thai government will track truck drivers’ behaviour to ensure they don’t drive rashly.

The Department of Land Transport is requiring all heavy-duty trucks to install a GPS location tracking system by 2019.

The GPS system will allow officials to track drivers’ behaviour by pooling real-time vehicle coordinates, travel speed and driving duration to a traffic management centre.

Most truck accidents occur because drivers work overtime and exceed speed limits, said Sanit Phromwong, Director General of the Land Transport Department in January.
