Women in GovTech 2018 Special Report.

How do you use technology to improve citizen’s life? Tell us about your role or organisation.

DXC Technology is the world’s leading independent end-to-end IT services and solutions company. We help our clients harness the power of innovation in this fast-changing world and support government agencies and commercial clients on their digital transformation journey.

Quite often, we work on cutting-edge projects where our clients are seeking ways to improve their end-user’s experience through technology. Most recently this year, we worked on launching a digital bank in India to serve the underbanked, setting up the entire IT infrastructure and business applications for this bank. As a result of this, many rural customers can now gain access to an integrated suite of banking services, such as money transfers and deposits, in their hometowns and without having to travel to far to a physical bank.

What has been the most exciting thing you worked on in 2018?

We launched the Digital Innovation Lab in collaboration with the Economic Development Board of Singapore. The DXC Digital Innovation Lab Singapore is an advanced environment for the incubation of ideas, learning and innovative technology solutions, developed by data scientists and enterprise solution experts.

At the innovation lab, digital specialists will explore novel technologies, develop prototypes and create reference architectures for rapid business deployment. It will showcase new and evolving approaches for delivering transformative digital solutions in industries such as insurance and financial services, healthcare and manufacturing. We see this lab as a way of DXC contributing to the nation’s digital economy.

We are very proud of this lab as we are rapidly working with clients, partners and many of the technology and business communities to push out new solutions. Every time I take a client or partner to the lab, new and cool technologies are being rolled out!

If you were to share one piece of advice that you learned in 2018, what would it be?

Digital transformation is upon us and every single company is going through this change. However, no one can do it alone, and partnerships, co-creation and constant innovation is the only way to accelerate and get on the digital super locomotive.

What tool or techniques particularly interests you for 2019?

Learning more about Artificial Intelligence systems and hope it can create performance optimisation in our industry. I’m interested to understand the future of work and how we can mitigate the war for talent and fast track the digital skills gap issue.

What are your priorities for 2019?

We will continue to disrupt ourselves and build on our own DXC digital transformation journey as we learn so much from these experiences. We will also accelerate the development of more digital centers in the region to allow us to partner with local industry and high tech partners.

We are investing a lot more on digital upskilling with our employees and enhancing our talent ecosystem to support our digital growth. This includes more university partnerships, leveraging the gig economy through our DXC Talent cloud and supporting our people with reinvention and learning and encouraging them to seek out career paths in these new technology areas.

What is one skill that has helped you the most throughout the course of your career?

I love to build things – build teams, build new brands and companies. It’s having that ‘immigrant mentality’ to always have a unique perspective, the resilience and the passion to just make it work. When I fail, I adapt and reset and that helps to build my strong inner resilience core to weather the ups and downs of my career.

What advancements do you predict will happen in your field in the next 10 years?

Driverless cars will become a reality; the use of artificial intelligence will be the new normal in our daily lives; and people will not be replaced by robots; instead, humans will need to learn “adaptive intelligence” – the ability to build an intentional capacity to cope with the new world by looking out for change and uncertainty and embracing different types of knowledge for learning.

Coffee, yoga, music …what powers through your day?

Minimum a fresh cup of freshly brewed coffee roasted by one of our local brewers and a punishing session of Body Pump class that gets the heart rate pumping and the muscles in shape!
