Singapore’s public healthcare cluster, National Healthcare Group (NHG), has announced new leadership appointments at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and NHG Population Health.
From April 1, Dr Shawn Vasoo will take over as NCID’s Executive Director, retiring as the centre’s Clinical Director since 2020.
Meanwhile, Dr Mark Chan will serve as Chairman, Medical Board (CMB), at the NHG Population Health division. He will continue to serve as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), one of the hospitals under NHG.
Dr Chan previously served as the Chairman of TTSH’s Division of Integrative and Community Care (DICC) from 2019 to 2025.
NCID is a public health facility to strengthen Singapore’s capabilities in infectious disease management and prevention, and houses clinical services, public health research, training and education, as well as community engagement.

Dr Vasoo said in an official statement that NCID plans to integrate the centre’s clinical services and functions with TTSH to ensure the delivery of holistic care to patients.
He further highlighted the role of innovation and collaboration in responding to emerging threats with agility and scientific rigor in the statement.
Having 15 years of experience in infectious disease management and research, he contributed to Singapore’s defence and preparedness against infectious threats, such as the nation’s Covid-19 response.
As the Chair of the Covid-19 Therapeutics Workgroup, the group standardised evidence-based care for Covid-19 treatment.
As the CMB, Dr Chan will drive clinical governance, care integration and professional development to reinforce NHG’s strategic role as regional health manager.
NHG is the regional health manager for 1.5 million residents in Central and North Singapore, where the healthcare cluster collaborates with private practitioners, public and community health, as well as social care providers.
“As NHG advances its population health efforts to enable Singaporeans to lead healthier lives, we recognise the need for stronger care integration and deeper clinical expertise,” he said.
In his previous role, Dr Chan oversaw the clinical and professional development of multiple specialties, including geriatric medicine, palliative care medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and more.
Under his tenure, there was greater interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation – having established a clinical governance framework to uphold high standards of care.
"His efforts have ensured smoother transitions and safe discharges for complex and frail inpatients, improving their long-term care outcomes,” the statement said.
