That fateful day on September 11, 2001, hijackers slipped US law enforcement radars by using 30 different identities. Fast forward to 16 years later, and criminals are even more sophisticated at hiding who they really are.

Agencies can use an “Identity Resolution” technique to match and correlate different individuals, groups, events and other data across systems, regardless of the language, structure, format or location. This involves:


  • Breaking down data silos between departments and agencies
  • Creating a ‘single view’ of law enforcement issues
  • Making critical connections across systems at high speed and lower cost
  • Using advanced matching algorithms to resolve complex identities, spot errors and data variations

Often, this data is deliberately falsified by criminals to confuse law enforcement systems. Traditional data mining technologies, which assume that the data is accurate, are not useful in such cases and can cause unnecessary delays in assessing threats in real time.
