The new Indonesian government’s free health screening programme for all citizens will be available via the SATUSEHAT Mobile app. The programme also covers mental health check-ups for children and adults.
Free health screening is part of President Prabowo's Asta Cita quick win programme that aims to achieve better public health.
Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said that SATUSEHAT Mobile will make it easier for people to access the government's healthcare services.
"This platform provides all the steps that citizens must go through to access free health check-up services from the government, starting from the registration process, selecting the date and location of the healthcare facility, and storing the patient's health check-up data," said Sadikin, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.
SATUSEHAT Mobile is an integrated digital health platform that allows users to access various health services - from child immunisation, vaccinations to personal medical record access.
Currently, SATUSEHAT Mobile has been downloaded by more than 50 million users.
The health screening programme started this month, targeting to reach 60 million citizens this year – and another 200 million over the next five years.
According to Sadikin, the free health screening programme would be the most massive large-scale government programme since the Covid-19 vaccination that uses SATUSEHAT.
"The Ministry of Health is now preparing 15,000 community-based healthcare facilities (puskesmas) and 10,000 clinics and government hospitals to support this programme," he said.
SATUSEHAT Mobile app – previously named PeduliLindungi – is used to track and trace the mobility of citizens during the pandemic and store vaccination data. The app successfully helped the government to control the spread of the virus and digitally collect vaccination data of 200 million Indonesians.

Register through SATUSEHAT Mobile
The Ministry of Health's Spokesperson, Widyawati, emphasised that the free health screening programme aims to detect potential health problems early. The results of the initial examination will serve as a reference to determine the patient's medical condition and provide further treatment if the patient has a chronic disease.
"Early detection is very important for disease prevention. So, we must ensure every citizen has the same opportunity to maintain their health," said Widyawati in a written statement.

Widyawati explained the process that citizens must go through to get free health screening services.
First, citizens must register via the SATUSEHAT Mobile app. People who do not have a SATUSEHAT Mobile account must download the app on their mobile phones and fill in their personal details. SATUSEHAT app is available for Android or iOS users.
For those who do not have a smartphone, they can create a new profile on the family member's SATUSEHAT account. If the family does not have a smartphone, they can do walk-in registration at the healthcare facility using their ID card.
For users who have downloaded SATUSEHAT Mobile, the health screening feature will appear after users update the app to the latest version.
Once the account is verified, people can then register and select the date and location of the desired healthcare facility.
Next, the app will deliver a notification and issue a free health screening ticket that users will use to get services at the healthcare facility as scheduled.
"The service time is valid on their birthday, or at the latest one month afterwards. Especially for newborns, the examination will be conducted two days after birth," she continued.
The health screening ticket is valid for a maximum of 30 days after the birthday. For people who have birthdays in January, February and March 2025, they can visit health care facilities until 30 April 2025.
Benefits for the people
Citizens who have obtained a free health check-up ticket are entitled to various medical check-up services at healthcare facilities that are worth IDR1.5 million (S$129) per individual.
According to Widyawati, the types of health screening may vary based on age and the most common diseases in each target group.
For newborns, the screening includes early detection of conditions such as thyroid hormone deficiency, G6PD, adrenal, critical congenital heart disease, and growth problems. Toddlers and school children will undergo growth screening, tuberculosis detection, hearing impairment, eye problems, dental problems, thalassaemia and diabetes.
Adults will be screened for cardiovascular risk and respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis, early detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, bowel cancer, sensory function, liver function. Meanwhile, the elderly group will undergo examinations as in the adult group plus geriatric examinations.
School children and adults will also be given a questionnaire containing questions that may indicate mental health problems.

Adding reminder feature
Widyawati said SATUSEHAT Mobile has added a reminder feature for users who have not activated their national health insurance membership, and the insurance can be used for hospital claims if health problems are detected during screenings.
"Those whose membership status is inactive [have not paid monthly contributions] are encouraged to activate their membership at least one month before the screening," said Widyawati.
Health insurance membership data managed by BPJS Kesehatan has been integrated into the SATUSEHAT ecosystem, enabling patients to access healthcare services seamlessly.
Widyawati underlined that this programme must be able to reach all community groups without exception.
"Toddlers, the elderly, people with disabilities or those who have difficulty going through the process can be registered by their family members through linked profiles in one account," she said.
The Ministry of Health also provides a helpdesk service that will assist users who have difficulty verifying or logging into the application.
