Malaysia has launched its national Malaysian Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI), which is a core component of Malaysia’s National Blockchain Roadmap.
MBI is a partnership between MIMOS Berhad (Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems), the national applied research and development (R&D) centre under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), as well as Malaysian e-government solutions provider MY E.G. Services Berhad (MYEG).
The infrastructure has been built on blockchain technology by Malaysia-based company Zetrix, which has developed blockchain applications that have been deployed by governments and enterprises around Asia.
In a joint release, MIMOS and MYEG said MBI was the foundation layer that would allow developers and businesses to build secure, scalable blockchain-based services without needing to navigate the technical complexity of individual blockchain platforms like Ethereum, Solana and enterprise networks.
This would simplify the creation of blockchain applications, and MBI was expected to cater to a broad range of use cases, such as supply chain traceability and digital identity.
Both the public and private sectors could also build applications catering to decentralised finance and tokenisation of digital assets, the statement said.

MIMOS Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Saat Shukri Embong, said MBI would drive competitiveness, positioning Malaysia as a “regional leader in blockchain adoption and development, potentially attracting investment and highly skilled talent”.
“It embodied digital inclusivity, making blockchain technology accessible to all Malaysians, regardless of their technical expertise.
“This streamlined approach enhances liquidity by aggregating resources from various platforms, enabling faster, more efficient, and cost-effective trading,” Embong said.
MyDigitalID to benefit from MBI
MIMOS said services such as the MyDigitalID would also benefit from MBI’s integrated capabilities, “ensuring verifiability, accessibility and interoperability”, which in turn would enable identity verification for complex cross-border and commercial use cases.
MIMOS expected MBI to spur innovation through public-private collaboration by offering a unified infrastructure that would build trust through “transparent and efficient digital transactions”.
The agency added that MBI would work in tandem with Malaysia’s MADANI vision.
The launch of MBI would help to reinforce Malaysia’s contribution to regional digital infrastructure efforts by providing a scalable and trusted foundation that enables interoperability and governance across borders.
It was designed to enable broader participation with simplified user experiences and increased accessibility for non-technical users, MIMOS said.
MYEG Group Managing Director and Zetrix Co-Founder, TS Wong, said Zetrix “was purpose-built to facilitate seamless cross-border and cross-chain transactions with enterprise-grade security and scalability”.
Referring to MBI, he added that “this national infrastructure” would reduce development friction while creating a unified digital ecosystem that connects governments, businesses, and citizens.
“By integrating Zetrix's capabilities with multiple blockchain networks, we're laying the crucial foundation for Malaysia's digital economy leadership in the region. Ultimately, MBI empowers the next generation of blockchain innovations that will benefit all Malaysians,” he added.
