Resilience of CIIs will be key focus area for GovWare 2024

With a theme focused on identity, trust and resilience, the three-day event, part of the Singapore International Cyber Week, will foster better understanding among stakeholders in today’s digital age.

GovWare 2024 is expected to see 12,000 attendees from 80 countries and the event will have more than 80 sessions, and 300-plus companies will exhibit their solutions at dedicated booths. Image: Image Engine.

The resilience of critical information infrastructure (CII) will be one of the key focus areas at this year’s GovWare 2024, being held between October 15-17 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.

Supported by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), GovWare 2024 is part of Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW), the region’s premier cybersecurity event that confronts modern cybersecurity challenges head-on.

This year’s theme for GovWare 2024 is Securing Dynamic Digital Roadmaps: Relooking Signposts in Identity, Trust, and Resilience, according to Image Engine, the organiser of the event.

Image Engine’s Executive Director, Ian Monteiro noted that the digital landscape is undergoing seismic shifts due to, among other things, the proliferation of scams and deep fakes which are eroding public trust.

“It is imperative for stakeholders to come together to address modern security issues, rebuild trust, and chart a secure, inclusive digital future,” Monteiro said.

He added that measures to foster trust in the digital age would be discussed extensively at GovWare 2024.

Novel concepts of inclusion and how to prioritise consumer protection as a design fundamental would also be deliberated on as these were essential for shaping a collective digital destiny, he added.

Focus on CII sectors

One of the highlights of this year’s conference will be special closed-door forums on key CII sectors such as the FSI (financial services industry) and Healthcare.

These sessions will facilitate open discussions and feedback between senior leaders representing end users, vendors and policymakers, to tackle pertinent issues within the respective sectors.

Senior leaders attending GovWare 2024 can register their interest in the FSI and Healthcare Forums via this link. Invitations are at the discretion of the organiser.

Noting that GovWare has been an important element of SICW since 2016, CSA’s Assistant Chief Executive, Dan Yock Hau, said the “digital-first world we live in today is increasingly exposed to new and emerging technologies”.

He added: “While we welcome the advantages brought about by technology, we need to take heed of the challenges in the cyber domain, marked by increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

“We are heartened that GovWare continues to foster crucial conversations among stakeholders to address these challenges and pursue innovations to bring everyone forward in our digitalisation journey.”

More than 12,000 attendees expected

Monteiro said that the organisers were expecting a growth in the number of attendees this year GovWare 2024. Last year’s event saw more than 12,000 attendees from over 80 countries.

GovWare 2024 will have more than 80 sessions, and 300-plus companies will exhibit their solutions at dedicated booths.

There will be a diverse representation of participants from public and private sectors, with over 30 per cent of attendees holding a senior leadership position.

GovWare 2024 will be expecting public and private sector delegations from ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, as well as South Korea, USA, UK, France, Estonia, and more.

Briefing for government officials

Like previous years, GovWare 2024 will feature a government closed-door session which is designed for Singapore civil and public service personnel.

This essential briefing will provide a deeper understanding of Singapore’s cyber landscape, and expert analysis of cybersecurity operations and strategies from the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT), CSA, GovTech, and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

Commenting on GovWare 2024, ST Engineering’s Goh noted that cybersecurity is not an individual game but a team sport.

“[GovWare] brings the best brains together not just in Singapore but all over the world to share their knowledge and insights and everybody will gain from each other experiences and more importantly the opportunity to meet old friends, meet new friends and enjoy yourself,” Goh said.

Monteiro said GovWare 2024 delegates benefit from an integrated GovWare and SICW conference programme, offering access to both GovWare and SICW open sessions.

This will provide attendees “robust insights spanning from high-level policy discussions to organisational implementation and cyber leadership strategies”, he added.
