Synopsis

Malaysia’s public sector is accelerating its digital transformation agenda, with increasing focus on leveraging AI to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and cross-agency coordination. As interest shifts from basic AI adoption toward more advanced agentic AI systems capable of automating and orchestrating end-to-end workflows, agencies are beginning to explore how these technologies can support more responsive and data-driven government services.

However, significant challenges continue to constrain progress. These include evolving and inconsistent AI governance frameworks, unclear accountability for AI-driven decisions, and regulatory processes that struggle to keep pace with innovation. At the same time, legacy systems and siloed infrastructure limit data interoperability and integration, while varying levels of AI maturity across agencies slow down transformation beyond pilot use cases. Additional gaps in AI-ready architecture, workforce capabilities, and organisational trust further restrict the ability to scale AI into core government operations.

This roundtable will explore practical pathways to overcome these barriers and enable scalable AI and agentic AI adoption across the public sector. Discussion will focus on strengthening governance and compliance readiness, modernising legacy and integration architectures, improving enterprise AI readiness, and accelerating the shift from isolated AI tools to fully embedded, workflow-driven AI systems that can support next-generation public service delivery.

Key Takeaways:

  • A clear view of the key barriers limiting scalable AI and agentic AI adoption in Malaysia’spublic sector.

  • A practical understanding of how to move from basic AI usage to embedding AI into end-to-end government workflows and operations.

  • Actionable approaches to strengthen governance, architecture, and organisational readinessfor scalable AI transformation.
